A Gift of Welcome
A GIFT of WELCOME -What a special honour to have our little story integrated into this article by the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). I especially love this quote: “We are showered every day with gifts, but they are not meant for us to keep. Their life is in their movement, the inhale, and the exhale of our shared breath. Our work and our joy is to pass along the gift and to trust that what we put out into the universe will always come back.”
UNCHR OFFICE – I am so touched by what a gentleman, a complete stranger, wrote to me yesterday: “The information about your new book, The Doll was just passed on to me. I of course know the story and have always found it moving. It is one of the stories I go to when I am discourage about my work. It always boosts my spirits.I immediately passed the book information on to my friends at the UNCHR Canada office in case they had not heard about this. You may not know this, but there is a big picture of you and your sponsorship group in the meeting area in their office in Ottawa.”
I had no idea about the picture…in Ottawa…so crazy! So incredibly honoured and humbled by this knowledge.
REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP – We did it! We reached our goal!!! Just when we thought we were languishing, the universe brought the Ebenezer Christian Reform Church in Leduc into our lives and lifted our spirits. In a few short weeks, they helped (through incredible silent auctions, plant/card sales, etc) to raise the last $10,000 so as to complete our application to sponsor the Alqodsi family. How amazing is that?!!!We are in awe of each and everyone for your amazing selflessness and generosity. The cheque for $30,700 is now officially in the mail to the MCC, and the family is a step closer to coming to Canada!!
KEMOSA SCHOLARSHIP – Just wanted to recognize these amazing men and renowned writers Omar Mouallem, Waubgeshig Rice and Richard Van Camp. Together, they helped, via Waub’s writing workshop (Pandemic University), raise over $3700 for the Kemosa Scholarship for First Nations, Metis and Inuit Mothers Who Write. The universe really does bring us many wonderful gifts when we’re not looking
