Mother’s Day Gifts

My goodness!! I have to share these Mother’s Day gifts! Kenya blew me away with her amazing sketches of them Then (10yrs ago) & Now!! My heart is full. Such an honour and privilege to be Kenya/Monet/Sage’s Mom ❤❤❤

May 31 – At the height of the Vietnamese Boat People crisis in 1979, Father Gilles Gauthier (May 16, 1932 – May 20, 2024) sought to sponsor a family that no other nations wanted. We were that family — a mother with little education and 6 children. Because of the hope and opportunities that our sponsors gave us in sponsoring us to Canada, we were able to pursue our dreams of becoming a doctor, nurse, ems, engineer, accountant, interior designer, restaurant owner, mechanic, animator, psychologist, drafts person, etc, — all making positive contributions to Canada and paying forward the kindness we received.

Yesterday, our sponsors from Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Enoch – Vicky/Phil Baril, Henry/Leona Heuver, Adele Thurston, Delores Begin (Hank/Tillie Zyp, Colleen/LaPerle) gathered to celebrate and honour Father, his life of compassion, and incredible legacy. We are forever grateful to Father Gauthier. We love him, the only father I’ve ever known, and will miss him dearly.

May 31 – So nice to be a part of a night celebrating Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry – University of Alberta alumni community, celebrating the extraordinary contributions that FoMD alumni make to their alma mater and the broader community.

May 27 – So great reconnecting w/ students and reading to them again. I’m always amazed by their understanding and brilliant questions about profound topics. Thank you Raphael @calgarylibrary for this opportunity to be a part of #LitCon2024

May 10 – Presenting the strong, brave, talented, and beautiful recipients — Shelley Willier, Rhonda Gladue, Paige Cardinal, Diana Power — of the 7th Annual #KemosaScholarship for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Mothers Who Write. Such a privilege to hear these women read their work. Their moving, powerful words will effect positive changes in the community. So grateful to the Writers Guild of Alberta for their ongoing support.
